I met a very exotic tribe by the side tributary of the Amazon River. Its members are Indians from the Peruvian Andes, who converted to the Old Faith. One day they left modern civilization and founded their settlement in a distant, cut off from the rest of the world, jungle.

They live in conformity with the principals of the Old Testament. They sacrifice burnt-offering stokes to God just as in Moses times.

There is no Jew upon them, however they call themselves the Chosen People.

I spent the Passover with them. It was the most beautiful Easter in my life: with the meat of a lamb, unleavened bread and "bitter" herbs – all in proper form.

PASSOVER IN THE JUNGLE

We were returning from the expedition to the Marubo tribe. We were steering our canoe towards Leticia city by the Amazon River. We still had about a five day trip ahead of us – a monotonous trip: just to be back to civilization as quick as possible. After a couple of weeks of sitting in the jungle we had enough. Plus we weren’t expecting to encounter any more sensations – the sensations were left behind us and in our cameras.
Suddenly, I noticed smoke on the left bank of the river.
A settlement? Someone lives here? – I asked our guide.
Nooo. Those are only Barbudos, men with beards – he said these words with light contempt and clear dislike.

Swim up there! – I told him. – I’m going to trade some meat for fruits.
They’ll drive us away. It’s a closed village. Barbudos never let strangers in.
This time however they did. And what’s more they welcomed us with open arms. We had unusual luck – it happened to be the only day of the year, in which a newcomer is treated like God himself would have sent him.

ATTENTION – drastic scenes!

The photos are arranged chronologically – they form a story.
